For large pours over 1 m³, ready-mix concrete is usually more economical than bags.

How to calculate concrete bags
The formula
Volume (m³) = area × depth. Bags = ⌈volume × 1.10 ÷ bag coverage⌉. Always add 10% waste for spillage and uneven ground.
How deep should a concrete slab be?
50 mm — floor screed over insulation. 100 mm — standard garden slab or shed base. 150 mm — driveway with regular car traffic. 200 mm — heavy vehicles or workshop floor.
Bags vs ready-mix
Bags are practical for small jobs under 1 m³. Above that, ordering ready-mix concrete by the cubic metre saves time and is usually cheaper per m³. A standard mixer truck minimum is typically 4–6 m³.
Pro tip: Wet concrete is heavy — a 40 kg bag makes roughly 0.030 m³. A 10 m² slab at 100 mm deep needs about 370 kg of concrete. Plan your delivery and mixing logistics before you start.
