How to calculate how many tiles you need
The formula
Tiles needed = ⌈(Area × (1 + waste %)) ÷ tile area⌉
Always round up — you can't use half a tile in the box count. The waste covers cut pieces, breakages and future repairs.
Which waste % should I use?
5% — simple rectangle, straight lay. 10% — standard for most rooms. 15% — diagonal or angled layout. 20% — herringbone or complex pattern.
How do I measure the area?
Length × width for a rectangle. For L-shaped rooms, split into two rectangles and add them together. Subtract large permanent fixtures like a bathtub or island.
Pro tip: Keep 5–10 spare tiles from the same batch after finishing. If a tile cracks years later, matching the exact shade from a new batch is nearly impossible.
