How to calculate laminate flooring packs
The formula
Packs needed = ⌈(Floor area × (1 + waste %)) ÷ pack coverage⌉
Always round up — you can't buy half a pack. The waste allowance covers cuts, offcuts and mistakes.
Which waste % should I use?
5% — simple rectangular room, straight lay. 10% — standard for most rooms. 15% — diagonal or angled lay. 20% — herringbone or complex patterns.
Where do I find pack coverage?
It's printed on the pack label, usually between 1.5 m² and 2.5 m² per pack. When shopping online it's listed in the product specs.
Pro tip: Buy one extra pack from the same batch and keep it for future repairs. Colour matching between batches is never guaranteed.
